REFLECTING UPON THE ART OF LACTATION PRACTICE:

A right brain, creative approach to developing your practice in a workshop that uses a creative and intuitive approach, especially helpful when reflecting upon style, scope, goals and self-care in current or future practice. It incorporates mutual supervision and personal reflections that culminate in a piece of written homework that will double to be useful to many for NMC revalidation.

These are relaxed and enjoyable days designed to consider both lactation and ethical issues.

The morning is spent looking at fine art images relevant to our work with breastfeeding mothers and babies with a view to refining our observational skills and doing some dialogue about the practical implications for ourselves.
Then the afternoon is spent reflecting upon personal and ethical implications as we make some art of our own. No art ability is needed as the emphasis is on the PROCESS we go through as we explore ideas and not on the end product.

The day is a bit of indulgence with a yummy lunch in nice surrounds in a very pleasant room with a terrace garden. And the bonus of L & E CERPs for those who need them to re-certify as IBCLCs.

WHO: The workshops are designed for IBCLCs and other qualified, experienced lactation practitioners.

FEEDBACK:

‘If you get the chance once Deborah is offering them again, I would highly recommend attending one of her Art of Lactation workshops. They’re a fab way of spending the a day for yourself with your peers, for supervision and to reflect on your practise. A great day out! Xxx’

‘I’ve had the best day at Deborah Robertson’s reflection workshop based around art therapy (which is accredited for CERPS). It was such a super day & as always, it’s lovely to spend time with other Breastfeeding Supporters & Lactation Consultants. Goodness knows we need each other! In a profession where we often come under fire & feel devalued, filling each other’s cup & nurturing each other is so important. I’ve been saying since qualifying that I wanted some more training focused on my counselling skills. We (rightly) have a lot of focus on updating of clinical practice, but the core of our work is supporting women & meeting them where they are. A wonderful day of reflecting on our practice & holding each other’s space. Just perfect. I feel refreshed, despite the drive to London & back. That’s when you know it’s been a good day!’
